Your running economy is how efficient you are; in other words, it determines how much energy you use to run at a certain effort over a certain distance. If you want better economy, one of the best ways to improve it (so you can run faster with less effort) is to lift weights.

Weightlifting improves running economy by improving coordination within a muscle between muscle fibers and also within muscle groups. Plus, each foot strike will be more powerful with the same effort.
