Question of the Day: My boyfriend was arrested for sexual assault after a false allegation made by his exwife that he assaulted a 2yearold. The charges were dropped but the police department posted the allegations and completely ruin his reputation. He even lost his job. He was never charge or anything regarding a child. Does he have a case?
This person should discuss this matter with a lawyer and law enforcement to see whether they have claims against the exwife and/or if the exwife should be reported for making a false police report. Unless the police did something wrong in their investigation, there may not be grounds for bringing claims against them because it’s their job to investigate reports. This person may want to contact law enforcement about options for removing the report from the internet and/or amending it to show that the charges were unfounded. They may also want to contact the press about doing a story about his situations – the problems he faced due to a false allegation, so that if someone Googles his name, this story would come up first over the report of the assault allegation.
