Indigo got some smoked fish and will now smell like smoked fish forever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The behavior seen in this video is called scent rolling and can be observed in all canines, but is incredibly common in wolves and wolfdogs. While we don't know for certain why it's done, there's a few possible explanations. The first thought is that it's a marking behavior; wolves have scent glands on their bodies and by rolling on something that smells novel they're putting their scent on it and marking it as theirs. Another theory is that it's a pack based behavior that started as a way to share a new smell with packmates. Yet another theory is that they do it because they like the smell and want to smell like it. Whatever the underlying psychology is, it's always hilarious to watch and unfortunate to deal with after the fact (scent rolling never seems to happen on things that smell nice).
