Howling is Hard

Sarah and the Wolves

This is Luci (short for Lucifer), a low/no content wolfdog. He isn't necessarily great at howling, but that's never stopped him from joining in with his friends, even if it is off by about three keys :')

Apologies for the vertical video! Luci is an 8 year old boy who might be the most tone deaf creature ever. He's a silly boy once you're inside his enclosure, but he can act very scary when you walk by his fence. He loves food and belly rubs.

Lucifer (so named for his intense barrier aggression) is what we refer to as a low/no content wolfdog. He has not been DNA tested to verify content, so we continue to refer to him as a wolfdog. However, if he were in private ownership we would likely recommend that the wolfdog label not be attached because the amount of wolf he has in his lineage is either incredibly minimal or non existent based off of his phenotype.

Luci is one of the many animals who suffers due to misrepresentation of animals. His owners insisted that he was a wolfdog, so when they decided that his behavior was too intense they put him into a wolfdog sanctuary rather than placing him in a dog rescue. Rather than being able to receive training to help correct his behavior, Luci will now live the rest of his life without constant human companionship. His spot in a wolfdog sanctuary is a spot that could otherwise go to a legitimate wolfdog in need. Sanctuaries are full, and misrepresented animals make up a large portion of the rescues required.

Luci is absolutely happy in his life, he's adjusted to a more "wolfy" lifestyle and thrives. But the truth is that not all animals will thrive in such environments, and our animal's well being needs to come before our ego. Accurate representation helps save animals and allows sanctuaries and rescues to provide care more tailored to their individual needs.
