Nest Box Observation 2024 ep.07 April 1012
This video captures the Daurian redstart's nest box observation from the 3rd to 5th days. Initially, only rough tree bark was brought in, and I wondered how the nest would turn out... But they used it as a foundation and built indentations with wood branches, roots, and moss! The inside of the indentation seems to be lined with deer hair, feathers, and dead leaves to create a softer surface.

The way they throw things into the nest and shape it by kicking backwards while being buried in the indentation is super cute! This video covers three days of observations, but by the third day, the nest seemed mostly complete. After that, they continued to bring in deer hair to shape the indentation. Today, on April 16th, they hardly came to the nest, so it seems mostly finished. I will cover the detailed events from the 13th onwards in the next video.
