I've been making a video every six months or so to show the status of our Great Dane, Goofus who underwent a modified dorsal laminectomy in the Summer of 2011 and then another similar Surgery on several more vertebra the Fall of 2011.
The Winter of 2011/2012, he seemed to become almost normal except of a bit of an ataxic gate when trotting at slow speeds. This seems to no way effect his coordination or strength. It just looks odd.
So far, at 4 1/2 years of age, he has reached the halfway point in the life of most Danes.
To say we are pleased is an understatement. The Goo gets to sleep in bed with us and we don't mind the inconvenience. We're just glad he's still around and healthy.
We are also sure that his willingness to play by himself has led to his phenomenal muscular development which we feel supports a weakened neck. We are hoping and praying that he have a full and happy life.
