This shared reading video shows the second day in Ms. Manor's 1st grade classroom. The focus of the lesson was phonics and phonemic awareness. The students did a great job using their white boards and sound spelling cards to think about words that have the same spelling patterns as the ones listed in the book. It is very important to emphasize to students that if they know how to read and write one word, they can read and write multiple words that have the same spelling patterns so when they're reading independently and get to a "tricky" word, they have one way of trying to figure out the word.
