This shared reading video takes place in Ms. Manor's 1st grade classroom using the story, "Flora's Blanket." Shared Reading is a great time to bring the students to the carpet for a short amount of time (10 minutes) and have everyone's eyes on one text. Each day is focused on a specific reading foundational skill and reading literature standard. As I introduce the book, I want to emphasize how we are using the pictures FIRST by looking at the cover, back of the book, title, and even the title page to "get our brains ready" before we even start reading the book. We are doing inferential work by looking at the pictures and thinking how the characters are feeling as they go on this adventure to search for Flora's blanket. The students are highly engaged and have started to change their voices to match the character in the text because of the repetition. Awesome class!!!
