While New York City is well known for being a pizza mecca, many in the know say that it is actually New Haven, not NYC, that is the pizza capital of the world. The famous New Haven apizza, pronounced "ahbeets" is known for being cooked in coalfired ovens and many would put the best pizza in New Haven up there with the best pizza in New York City and the best pizza in the world even!

While there are plenty of New Haven pizza shops to explore, such as Sally's Apizza, Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, and New Haven's Bar pizza, in this video we went to Modern Apizza. It has almost as long a history as all the other places but Modern Apizza was rated the best pizza in the USA by Pizza Today magazine. An impressive feat considering just how many great pizza places there are in the hometown of Yale University!
