I've created a new type of level that is engulfed in water and you are halfsubmerged. It offers a different experience to a typical rugged terrain map. It also opens a sea of possibilities for creating all sorts of water creatures (shark demon? Nokken?) and vessels. A scene like this is easy to create, you'd think, and it is, until you decide you want it to look good... That's when you realize the importance of details to make or break your scene, such as reflections, fluid movement, water splashes etc. all of which must look convincing and cheap to render because they will be ubiquitous. This vid shows how far I've got with this scene (including an enemy prototype).
