It is a short audio clip that showcases the capabilities of a voiceover artist, much like a resume. The term "demo reel" comes from the days of analog recording, where original recordings were stored on circular reels of magnetic tape. However, voiceover demos can now be recorded on computers using software like Audacity and saved as a digital file.

Now, let me answer one question first. Is it a good idea to make a demo reel on your own? For new and aspiring voiceover artists who are starting out with entrylevel jobs found on freelance sites like Fiverr or Upwork, yes, creating a DIY demo reel is a good idea. However, if I do not advise sending it to talent agencies or paytoplay sites, unless it meets professional standards.
