Changing your RV Fluids OR MOTORHOME Fluids is a PM item and necessary.

Have a Class A, Class B, Class C motorhome, heavy duty truck, 5th wheel or a pull behind trailer, all these RV vehicles have assorted fluid systems & they need to be changed often. It’s Preventative Maintenance. Changing all your RV and tow vehicle fluids is an important thing to do often. It’s just a smart thing to do. In todays RV, DIY, HowTo Video, I’ll be covering the different aspects of changing your RV fluids, why you should do it often and show you stepbystep—how to change out your power steering fluid in your Class A, Gas Motorhome. Having fresh fluids will help prevent bad things from happening, and greatly increase the life of all your equipment.

I consider RV motorhomes, trucks that we pull our trailers with & all RV's “Severe Duty Vehicles”. We put them under tremendous loads & put them under extreme conditions like climbing mountains, driving in cold temps, hot temps, pulling another vehicle or a trailer, leveling systems….all kinds of stuff. So whatever a service manual calls for in terms of a maintenance schedule… I just cut that recommended schedule in half. It’s just to important of an item to try to stretch out any fluid life to it’s very end.

Chassis’s equipped with a Hydroboost or Hydromax Booster Brake Systems receive fluid pressure from the power steering pump, this is no ordinary power steering fluid change and it's important. It provides power assist during braking. Our F53 chassis has a Hydroboost System. If you want to know what type of system you have and how they work refer to your manual. But this is another reason why I’m changing out our power steering fluid today.

All fluids break down over time. They also are very prone to getting contaminated with condensation, debris and micro particles from equipment wear. So you have to change them out often and that’s what we’re doing today with our Class A power steering fluid change. Whether it’s your Class A oil change, RV hydraulic leveling jacks fluid, Motorhome hydraulic leveling jacks, camper hydraulic leveling jacks, Class A motorhome engines oil, leveling system hydraulic oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, radiator coolant or any other fluids that you have, they need to be on your PM list of things to change periodically.

Todays power steering fluid change was an easy fluid change and now you see why I say you guys can do this stuff. You CAN do these things. You can do 80% 90% of the PM items that your RV needs. And I show you how to do this stuff for FREE.

From the Ford Manual How to check the power steering fluid level:
1. Start the engine and let it run until it reaches normal operating temperature (the engine coolant temperature gauge indicator will be near the center of the normal area between H and C).
2. While the engine idles, turn the steering wheel left and right several times.
3. Turn the engine off.
4. Check the fluid level on the dipstick. It should be between the arrows in the FULL range on the
side of the dipstick with the words MAX. HOT at the top. Do not add fluid if the level is within this range.
5. If the fluid is low, add fluid in small amounts, continuously checking the level until it reaches the FULL range.
6. Be sure to put the dipstick back in the reservoir
