Sarah and the Wolves

Bast is a wolfdog who missed the memo that some people refer to him as "halfwild" (probably because they're fully wrong).

There's unfortunately been a lot of press lately about wolfdogs being "halfwild". While wolfdogs are closer to the wild than say, a Chihuahua, they're by no means "halfwild". Most wolfdogs are descended from captive bred wolves who have existed in decidedly nonwild settings for generations. Most pure wolves used in breeding wolfdogs came either from zoos or (sadly) fur farms. Removing wolves from the wild is a felony in the United States and almost never happens. To state that wolfdogs are halfwild is dangerous fear mongering and misrepresentation. Wild animals should live in the wild, and by extension "halfwild" animals should live in some approximation thereof. But that's simply untrue when applied to wolfdogs. Wolfdogs have been born and raised in captivity, and have no concept of the wild. To insinuate that they would be happier in the wild is demonstrably false, and would be just as cruel as forcing a truly wild animal to live in captivity.
