As winter settles on our small farm, we concentrate on keeping our animals provided with feed, water, and appropriate shelter through the cold and snow. This is made more challenging by the extended "mud season" we experience in Central New York. We take care of our farm animals in winter quite differently than we do in the summer: the Dexter cattle move into their winter pasture, the young pigs move into a large space in the barn, and our flock of laying chickens move into their winter house. Join me as I give a tour of our small pasturebased livestock farm in winter, and talk about the methods we've developed to keep our animals happy through the cold months.
