Why Does PARIS Make the Japanese DEPRESSED? | The Paris Syndrome

In 1986 a Japanese psychiatrist named Hiroaki Ota was working in France, and he encountered many Japanese people who had psychiatric breakdowns when visiting Paris. He described this in a book called The Paris Syndrome, and in this video I decided to visit Paris and explore the Paris Syndrome in more detail.

This video goes into the history and background of the Paris Syndrome, and compares it with common culture shock that happens to hundreds of thousands of tourists every year, all over the world. Is the Paris Syndrome really all that different? And if so why?

The Japanese culture is a stark contrast to the French culture in many ways. But that by itself is not enough to explain the intense feelings Japanese visitors have had. Instead, Paris is often exaggerated and idealized to such a high extent that when they meet the cold, harsh reality...it becomes an incredible shock.

I also offer my thoughts on Paris and why other visitors aren't affected in a similar way. Plus, I also show some lovely sights along the way from Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees, the Arch of Triumph, the Wall of Love, Montmartre...and much more! Oh, and of course I had to include a visit to the Louvre and the Mona Lisa too.
