9. Crystal Skulls
The legend, and infamy, of the Crystal Skull isn't just something that is known to historians and scientists. It's something of a pop culture icon in its own right. And as such, it’s spawned many legends about what may have been on Earth alongside humanity at one point in time.

8. The Jigsaw Mummies
In the Scottish Highlands in the early part of the 2000s, a dig was going on under a Bronze Age Settlement that existed 3000 years ago. Two skeletons were eventually found by the team. At first, nothing seemed to be odd as the bones were clearly of a male and female in composition. But that's why you never make assumptions based on first views.

7. The Pit Of Death
Heading now to the nation of France, a development project was going on at a certain property when all of a sudden the construction workers dug up a pit that had loads of full skeletons in them. To give you some context, the hole that had these skeletons was over 6 feet (2m) deep and 5 feet (1.7m) wide. And it was indeed filled to the brim with bones, making it clear just how many bodies were in there.

6. Mass Graves In England
At Durham University in northeast England, an attempt was made to go and expand the library that was there. Now, that’s a noble thing to do. But it was quickly stopped when a set of shocking discoveries were made. Mainly, two mass graves were found that were said to contain about 1700 skeletons within them.

5. Giant Bones
The question of giants, true mythological giants has been asked by many a generation. Because many have stories about these giants from the Greeks to the Christian Bible and so on.
The Guinness World Record for the tallest man is Robert Wadlow was 8 feet 11 inches tall (2.71m). Which is tall but not "giant tall" in terms of the stories and myths out there.

4. Shackled Skeletons
Sadly, there are many cases of burials with skeletons that show just how cruel certain people treated others even in death. A great example of this was a set of skeletons found in a grave near Athens in Greece.
There are two things that make this find particularly disturbing. The first is that the expressions of the skulls themselves are a bit haunting. But another thing that adds to the grisly nature of this is the shackled state of the hands. They were shackled for one reason, and then buried with the shackles, possibly as a further insult to those that had died.

3. Skulls At the Bottom Of A Lake
In Sweden, in 2009, some archeologists were excavating a driedup lake bed. Near the bottom of the lake, they found a sealed structure. Within that stone structure were a set of 11 skulls, and they weren't regular looking by any means.
Many of them were impaled, some of them were burnt to a crisp, and one of them was literally shoved inside another skull. A horrifying state of affairs, wouldn't you say?

2. Arctic Cannibalism
In 1845, Sir John Franklin and his crew set out to the arctic to try and find the legendary Northwest Passage. The ships they had to attempt the soontobe infamous voyage were the HMS Terror and the HMS Erebus. The reason the voyage was infamous was due to the fact that the Arctic cold and ice pack had trapped their ships for literal years. The ice didn't melt and thus extreme measures had to be done in order for the remaining men to survive. That extreme measure was cannibalism.

1. Ancient Chemical Warfare
In the modern day, there are all sorts of methods to wage war, including some that are dubbed as "barbaric" with the likes of chemical warfare. That includes using various chemicals and gasses to try and kill your foes. The irony is that certain nations in ancient times didn't have a problem doing that.
Over 2000 years ago, the Romans and the Persians were at war. The Persians sought to take the city of Dura that the Romans had taken. They dug tunnels to try and get into the city, and the Romans dug tunnels to stop them.
