9. Giant African Snail
In some parts of the world, snails aren't just common to see out and about, but are also a part of the local cuisine (especially in places like France). I know, it sounds disgusting to a lot of us, but it’s actually considered a delicacy there! This is mainly due to cultural differences, and the little snails, or escargot, can be found at lots of fancy restaurants in many parts of the world. However, in case you didn’t realize, not all snails are small and compact. The Giant African snails are nothing short of genetic freaks compared to their brethren. They're nearly a foot long (30cm), and thanks to their shells, they have a fair bit of height on them, as well. What you may not have been aware of regarding these snails is that if you actually see one...you might be in danger of invasion.

8. Livyatan Melvillei
Whales in our world today are mostly known for being peaceful. However, some will note that there are certain species like Orcas and Sperm Whale that can be quite aggressive. And in the ancient waters of Earth, the Livyatan Melvillei proved that any whale could be a fierce predator and be one of the deadliest things in the ocean.

7. Black Flying Fox
Do not be fooled by the name of this creature, it's not a fox, it's actually a bat. Though a very large one, obviously. Many average bats get at most a foot (30cm) or so in their wingspan, and their bodies are usually rather small in comparison. But the thing about the Black Flying Fox, is that this is a bat two to three times that size and wingspan.

6. Giant Amazon Leech
Leeches are a species that invoke many negative feelings in humans, and most people often do their best to stay away from them. Thankfully, they're small all the time, right? Wrong. Just take a look at the Giant Amazon Leech.

5. Giant Freshwater Stingray
Stingrays are a species that people love to watch in certain ways (sometimes from a safe distance due to their stingers). But many would be shocked to see how the Giant Freshwater Stingray looms large in the waters.

4. Megatherium
Sloths are not the most impressive creatures in the world right now. But in the Ice Age, there were types of sloths that had much more active and aggressive tendencies, and had a size that puts other sloths in the modern world to shame.
One of the biggest among these was the Megatherium. These ground sloths could actually grow up to 20 feet (6m) long, not a size you would associate with sloths of today. Another unique feature these sloths had were tails, which they used to help fend off predators who got too close.

3. Mekong Catfish
The Mekong Catfish is a truly abnormally large creature that puts other Catfish to shame.

Catfish as a whole often range from a few inches long up to 5 feet (1.6m) long depending on the species. As for weight, it can vary from a couple pounds, to a couple hundred pounds. Thus why they're a "big prize" for many fishermen. However, when it comes to the Mekong Catfish, they're much bigger in all aspects.

2. Megalania
In the Outback of Australia, there is a legend of a creature known as the Megalania, and it's said to have been one of the most feared predators the country has ever seen.
The Megalania was a monitor lizard, and a massive one at that as claims say it was 23 feet (7m) long based on fossil findings. What's more, it was said to have a mouth full of teeth that were powerful...and venomous.

1. Lion's Mane Jellyfish
Jellyfish are both beloved and feared in the world today.
That’s because they can be beautiful creatures to look at...but...also have a sting that can kill you. Luckily, most of them aren’t all that intimidating, but then...there's the Lion's Mane Jellyfish, which is a truly massive thing to behold.
The body of the Lion's Mane Jellyfish, known as the "bell", at full size can be 7 feet (2.1m) long. When you add in the length of the tentacles, which are able to reach 120 feet (36m) in length, you can see why it's the largest of its kind.
