Welcome back to our garden! We've been searching for ducklings for a while and finally brought them home this weekend! After a few bee stings to the face, I'm also finding my confidence to do the first full hive check of the season.

Hi, I'm Kezia and my goal on the internet is to make lower footprint living a little less complicated and a bit more budget friendly. You can follow along here on YouTube (hit the subscribe button!) // Instagram: www.instagram.com/the.whole.home // The Whole Home blog: www.thewholehome.co.uk.

THE BEES:

These bees came from a roof where they couldn't stay. I cut them out of the floorboards with a friend in 2022 and they made it through the winter as a weak little colony. This is their second spring in a hive. The hive I have is this one (https://amzn.to/4b4FTsh) and it's not fancy but I swear by it. I've tried a much more expensive, fancy option but this is the one that's kept the weakest colony alive over the winter and is a really solid more affordable hive.

11 THINGS YOU'LL NEED TO START YOUR BEE JOURNEY ➑ https://www.thewholehome.co.uk/11thi... This post is a roundup of things you'll need to think about before keeping bees. I found it hard to know how to start or what I even needed to know so this is a round up from my own personal experience to start you off. It's not everything you need to know but an overview of the different pieces you'll need to research.

THE DUCKLINGS:

We've had chickens for years and I wanted to add ducks for a few reasons. in an urban area we're not able to have a cockerel/rooster (we have no technical limitations but I don't want to do that to our neighbours!) Ducks give us the chance to hatch eggs and raise birds for eggs and potentially meat without rooster noise.

We have 4 Khaki Campbell ducks (girls) and a cherry valley drake (the boy.) Follow along and hit subscribe to see how they grow up!

HOW TO START A BACKYARD CHICKEN COOP ➑ https://www.thewholehome.co.uk/howto... This isn't about ducks but a lot of it is the same for ducks. There are more things to consider starting out than people talk about so this is what I've learned over the last 8 years with chickens.
