Skagway is definitely one of our favorite cruise destinations when cruising to Alaska. This charming mining town has retained its charm, and there are so many things to do while in port. Our most recommended tour in all of AK is the train that takes you up into the Yukon. But be aware, that its best to buy your ticket ahead of time since there is limited space and more ships equals more people.

You can also jump off to Haines, which is a real hidden gem. For anyone who has experienced Skagway before, Haines is a great way to find some solace away from the crowds, and is only a 20 minute ferry ride away. There you can experience one of the most beautiful bald eagle sanctuaries anywhere!

Shopping at Diamonds International and Del Sol are great for those big ticket items to ensure that you don't get ripped off with poor quality. However, if you are truly looking for great gifts try checking out the local shops a little further in town. Glacier silt soap, photo prints, or even local art can be a great way to take some of Skagway home with you.
