The North Bay Area of Northern California was hit with severe thunderstorms that produced a lot of lightning and sparked wildfires on August 16th and 17th of 2020. In this video you'll see some of the frequent lightning and rumbles of thunder we experienced in the early mornings. These thunderstorms formed due to a great deal of tropical atmospheric moisture that was being siphoned off of Tropical Storm Fausto and steered right at our area by a strong high pressure area over the desert Southwest. Our strong heatwave and lack of inversion layer allowed for atmospheric instability and convection to fuel these thunderstorms. We saw a great deal of cloudtoground lightning strikes, cloudtocloud and in this video you'll also see some anvil crawler lightning bolts, also known as "spider lightning". It was pretty wild!!
