9. Pacu Fish
When most people think about scary creatures of the Amazon, they tend to think about piranha for various reasons. But here's the thing, the piranha isn’t the be all and end all of disturbing fish! They have a cousin called the Pacu fish. While Piranha are feared for their aggressive natures, Pacu fish give people nightmares for different reasons. And no, they won’t eat you, but they will make you question if you’re imagining things.

8. Poison Dart Frog
Frogs themselves aren't known to be poisonous, but the exceptions, like the Poison Dart Frog, are the ones you need to be afraid of. The real issue here is that you may not know which are the safe ones and which ones can kill you, you know?

7. Jaguar
If you go to the Amazon Rainforest, you might just find yourself looking at the "big cat" known as the Jaguar. And that should terrify you as these are vicious hunters with blinding speed and incredible bite strength.
Jaguars are often confused with leopards, but the difference is that Leopards don't exist in the Western Hemisphere, what's more, Jaguars are larger and heavier than them, and that helps make them an apex predator of the Amazon.

6. Arapaima
Known to grow to insane sizes, like 9 feet (3m) long and 200 pounds (90kg) at times, the Arapaima is one of the biggest fish you will find in the Amazon River. What might make them even more interesting though is that they are known for being armored fish. The Arapaima has no fear of predators in the river and has its own predatory abilities that make it very fierce in the water.

5. South American Rattlesnake
There are many snakes in South America, but the South American Rattlesnake is known to be one of the most deadly beings to live in the Amazon Rainforest.
To be clear, these are Pit Vipers, and like Rattlesnakes in other regions they do not like to be disturbed. They'll coil up their bodies and make a hissing sound to let you know that they are not pleased with your presence, and if you take too long to move, or get too close to it, they'll lash out, bite you, and inject you with their venom.

4. Electric Eel
The Electric Eel has not one, not two, but three different organs in its body that can produce an electric charge. That charge is used to kill or stun its prey in the water. In fact, it's stated that it has enough of an electric charge to actually kill an adult human instantly in certain cases. This is because it can discharge people with 500 volts of electricity. Of course, it should be stated that often, the human is stunned so much that they drown right there after being shocked by the eel. Paralysis can be deadly when you’re underwater!

3. Black Caiman
The Black Caiman resides in the Amazon Rainforest and river, and it is considered the biggest threat to people who come to the area. This particular breed of crocodile is one of the biggest alive, measuring in at 20 feet (6m) at times, it's also one of the largest predators in the entire Amazon Rainforest.
To be clear here, this is one of the Apex Predators of the domain, and that means a lot when you consider its appetite. It'll go after fish, after birds, after mammals, and yes, even go after humans if the situation is right. The Black Caiman is a species that distinguishes itself by being an ambush predator, or a "firststrike" predator. It'll wade in the waters of the Amazon River and its tributaries, and then slowly sneak up on the animal that it wants to eat, then lash out.

2. Harpy Eagle
You honestly rarely hear about deadly birds in the Amazon Rainforest because of how high the trees are. But if you don't think you need to fear any birds there then you haven't heard of the Harpy Eagle.
One thing that many have noted about the Harpy Eagle is that they are massive. Their body length can get over 3 feet (1m) at points, and their wingspan can be over 7 feet (2.2m).

1. Piranha
The cousin to the piranha may have the strange humanlike teeth, and that’s bizarre and chilling in its own way, but it still doesn’t spook people like the horrifying villain of the Amazon River, the one and only piranha.
This is a fish that is characterized by its razor sharp teeth that can bite through nearly any living thing. They usually swim in swarms, and so when they eat, they will come together to literally pick the bones of their victims clean. They're aggressive, they're relentless, and they're hungry...really, really hungry.
