The Savannah cat, which is tall and graceful, was originally introduced in the late twentieth century.

Savannahs are a hybrid breed created by crossing a Siamese cat with a wild serval.

And that wildness is evident: the breed retains the enormous perked ears, long legs, and spotted coat of its African cat ancestors while maintaining the affable disposition of a domestic pet.

One thing to keep in mind about Savannah cats: they are large. Adult Savannah cats can reach heights of 17 inches and weights of 25 pounds, depending on the generation.

First generation crossings (F1 and F2) are larger than subsequent crosses and have lovely spotted coats in brown, tan, and black.
Later generations are more distantly related to their wild ancestor, but they preserve the colors and patterns of earlier generations—they're simply smaller and more docile.

Savannah cats are devoted, intelligent, and inquisitive felines, but they may not be the greatest choice for new cat owners.
