I really need a small ball peen hammer. Luckily, I have a few old hammer heads laying around ready to be restored. This one was in particularly bad shape, but with a little elbow grease it turned out great.

The restoration begins with cleaning and grinding to get down to bare metal and get rid of as much pitting as possible. Once complete, I finish sanded everything with a fine grit to make everything look nice. While I could have polished it at this point, I decided against it. I'm a fan of the brushed metal look, and, with the forest green paint, I think it has a really nice look.

Don't ever let anyone tell you that making a handle by hand is easy, because it is not. And, I had to do it twice. After several hours of work, I cracked the first handle while trying to wedge the head on. The second handle turned out much nicer and I took the lessons learned from the first one and applied them here. Overall, I like it and will be putting it to work.
