Before art supply stores existed people used natural dyes for painting. Eucalyptus trees grow near my hut and through experimentation I found that the crusty dry sap where the tree had been injured could be cooked in water to create a blood red dye. This dye can be used to dye fabric, for making black clay, and for painting on porous surfaces such as adobe.

For a long time I have been fascinated by the Mayan culture of Central America so I decided to make my first wall painting a series of Mayan hieroglyphics. Can you decipher what it reads?
