Optimism can help you move past your insomnia and improve your sleep for the long term

A recent study associated optimism with better sleep quality — and this came as little surprise to me since I find that people with chronic insomnia who are more optimistic when tackling their insomnia using cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBTI) techniques tend to be the most successful.

If you start a course of CBTI thinking that the techniques aren't going to help, then you are going to struggle to be successful. So, it's important to only take the leap when you feel ready to do so.

It's also important that anyone you choose to work with (for example, a coach such as myself) clearly explains the rationale behind all of the techniques you will be implementing so you understand how they work and why they will help you improve your sleep.

At the end of the day, every case of chronic insomnia is very similar — and chronic insomnia responds very well to cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBTI) techniques. So, since your insomnia is very similar to that of others who have successfully got their sleep back on track by implementing CBTI techniques, there's little reason to believe that you won't be successful, too.
