Mother's Day | 1970s Suburban America in Super 8mm

Dennis Edward Mezerkor

This movie was made on Mother’s Day 1973 – just nine days before my first birthday. The film starts – rather randomly – outside at North Chagrin Reservation in the Cleveland Metroparks. Pay attention and you’ll catch a quick glimpse of a prerenovation Squire's Castle!

This is another movie that was shot by my grandfather. So, it includes rare evidence of my father and my mother with the extremely long hair she had most of her life existing in the same time and place. An interesting note is that my grandmother saved the card seen before she opens the present and I still have it.

Most of this home movie is just me wandering around – and falling down in – a living room from a typical suburban 1970s home. Sadly, those colors and fabrics are seared into my brain forever. I can recall most of the toys found lying around – including the vintage set of heated curlers seen at one point. But I do not remember the camera I seemed to really enjoy chewing on. My aunt my mom's sister is the one desperately trying to demonstrate how a camera SHOULD be used.

Digitized with a Kodak Reelz and edited with DaVinci Resolve Studio. All products used were purchased by me for my own personal use.
