Saturday February 17, 2024 was a blustery, lake effect squally kind of day in Northeast Ohio. Which means it was the perfect weather to let my Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers run around outside! And while I was out there with them – test the Nikon Zf, handheld, with the Nikkor Z 24120mm f/4 S.

Note: With 50mph wind gusts and ninjastarsnowflakes pelting about, I did not even bother to grab an external microphone or dampen the sound in any way! The first minute of the video is at regular speed and the last three minutes are in slow motion (40%).

Auto Focus was set to AFF, WideS with subject detection on “auto”. Recorded internally, using Nlog (4:2:2 10bit) in 4K @ 60fps – which forces a 1.5x (DX) crop. I used a K&F Concept, NanoD series, variable ND filter (ND82000) and left it slightly underexposed. Edited in DaVinci Resolve Studio with color science set to “DaVinci YRGM Color Managed”. Otherwise, everything is straightoutofcamera with no grading adjustments or stabilization added. Exported in 1080p @ 24fps, because – well – it’s just shades of gray!
