Main Cause of INF Burnout

INFJ personality types and INFP personality types both struggle with productivity in similar ways. Because the temperament of these two types is so different from the mainstream, the mainstream methods of productivity usually don’t work for either type. Most INFJs and INFPs notice this early on, when they are in school, and it carries over into adulthood, when they are in the workplace. It seems that no matter what method of productivity they try to use, it doesn’t work.

Mainstream methods of productivity usually involve a “warrior mindset,” where the person is supposed to thrive on strenuous challenge and push ahead through obstacles at every turn. Whenever they feel resistance, they are supposed to push harder, until they meet their goal. This method very rarely works for INFJ and INFP personality types, most of which are not warrior types, but instead are artisan types. Artisan types have a very different kind of energy, and pushing and forcing themselves through things almost always triggers more resistance and shuts down the whole process, rather than gets them to the goal.

Warrior methods of productivity are very prevalent in mainstream society, but they’re not healthy for INFJ or INFP personality types. In addition to triggering resistance, they also trigger a whole host of psychological complexes in the INFJ and INFP psyche that result in the INFJ or INFP blocking themselves even further and getting nothing done. The solution is to move away from these kinds of productivity methods and instead use strategies that complement the INFJ and INFP’s natural flow of energy.
