How to Talk to a Camera: Awkward to Confident

Follow
Junius Ong

In this video, you will learn how to talk to a camera and go from awkward to confident on YouTube. I share four tips/principles that I have utilised that have helped me improve my oncamera voice significantly.

The four tips I share in this video are:
1. The vibe I try to have on camera.
I try to imagine myself in a boardroom with friends. This allows me to feel comfortable yet prevents me from speaking too informally.
2. The voice I try to have.
I try to speak with what Christopher Voss describes as the Late Night FM DJ voice which is soothing, calm and downwards inflecting.
3. I try to improve how clearly I speak.
I did this by (1) Recording myself and then trying to correct myself, (2) Repeating phrases from speakers that I wanted to sound like and (3) hiring someone to critique my accent and suggest improvements.
4. Being authentic.
People can sniff when you're disingenuous so being as authentic as possible also helps when you're on camera.
