Knowing how to properly pack the most fragile items during your move is one of the most frequently asked questions. Avoid the disaster of broken dishes by following these simple steps.

1) First, gather your materials. You’ll need an assembled box, packing paper, and packing tape. Make sure that you have ample table space to layout all of your materials for packing.
When selecting a box, make sure you use either a Dish Pack Box or a strong moving box. Some online retailers sell lower quality, recycled boxes that could increase the chance your dishes break.

2) Next, create a cushion in the bottom of the box with crumpled packing paper, bunched towels, linens or even clothes.

3) Lay your packing paper, tape, and dishes on a large table.

4) Place one plate in the center of the stack of packing paper. Fold 2 or 3 sheets from the corner over into the center of the plate. Place another plate on top and repeat 2 more times for a total of 4 plates, or 1 place setting. Wrap remaining corners over the plates to make a nice package.

5) Turn the wrapped dishes upside down and tape securely. If you choose, wrap 2 or 3 more sheets around for extra protection.

6) Take the package of plates and place in the box vertically, as you would if you were loading a dishwasher.

7) Once your box is full, fill in any extra space in the box using additional packing paper, linens, clothing or other soft material to prevent any movement during transportation.

Often, professional packing services are the best option. National Van Lines is there for you every step of the way from packing to unloading. Call 8775902810 or find a local mover online at nationalvanlines.com.
