When it comes to assessing peripheral arterial disease, or diabetic feet, the ABPI assessment is a core clinical skills

In a nutshell, the ABPI allows you to determine if intermittent claudication is due to PAD, if you calculate a ratio of less than 0.9 of the ankle pressure divided by the pressure at the arm.

This video demonstrates how to perform an Ankle Brachial Index test

The test is performed with a simple handheld Doppler and a blood pressure cuff, taking measurements at the ankle and arm.
