Have you heard of dog nail files?!

Since we made the decision for Jayce to be in booties on any pavement it’s meant that we’ve had to be more on top of making sure his nails don’t grow too long. Getting a nail file for his front nails will mean less frequent groomer appointments (he doesn’t like those) and a far more rewarding/ less aversive experience than us trying to use a dremel at home. More broadly they’re a fantastic tool for any dogs who don’t love their paws being touched or handled.

I was a bit worried about Jayce ‘getting’ it as he doesn’t really tend to scratch or dig at things which is why I moved his leg for him so he could connect the movement and contact with the nail file as the reward. That said, he got it astoundingly quickly (less than five minutes) and his nails are now a perfect length too.

The Digger Dog Nail File is fantastic as the ‘reward’ is built into the use of the product which means it’s easier to time it. Also, seeing the reward be hidden from them may encourage dogs to paw at it naturally without any need for prompting like Jayce did.
