One of the most productive and common types of gold deposits found all round the world are those directly related to mountain building events, sometimes known as Orogenic deposits (meaning it’s from mountain forming origins) deposits. Some of the previous names (most of which are better known to prospectors) include “Mother Lode type” “mesothermal gold”, “low sulfide gold quartz veins”, “goldonly veins”, “shearzone hosted gold”, “greenstone belt gold” and “turbidite or slate belt hosted gold deposits”. This class of deposits often gives rise to some very rich placer gold deposits. These deposits are very wide spread across the planet; in fact they are so extensive that something around 75% of all the gold ever mined comes from these types of deposits (if one includes also the placer deposits that formed from them). So do you want to learn about the kind of deposits that make up 75% of all the gold ever found? Well, check out this video.
