Farmall H Transmission Cover Removal and Powerwashing Internals

Continuing the series on the Farmall H maintenance now includes removal of the transmission cover and powerwashing the internals to remove the decades old sludge imbedded in the bottom. Earlier attempts at flushing with diesel fuel removed a great deal of nastiness, but further investigation revealed the need to totally clean the housing by more thorough means.
There's a brief discussion concerning removal of the shifting lever and the positioning of the shifting forks and gears on the upper rail. We even take a quick look, though it is obstructed by the clutch, at the worn edges of the originally slightly tapered square cut gears. Most of the transmission whine and howl is because of the style of gears used in the gear train. Some models of various tractors are known for a certain 'third gear whine' under load at wide open throttle. Some are just noisier than others. Some you hear the drive train over the engine noise and others you hear the engine over the drive train noise. Go figure.
All in all its a quick video that will let you see the inside of a transmission and how the power is transferred to the rear wheels via a series of gears and differential. Nothing in extreme detail though, but if you've not seen the guts of a 65 year old tractor it could be interesting to you.
This whole series started out as a quick 'first start' type video and grew into an unexpected series of 'extended service' videos for the old gal. Its ok though, because all things old and neglected need a little TLC and I find entertainment in providing entertainment for you. Now bear in mind, with nothing prepared at any time during the recording sessions you can expect verbal abuse in the terminology department on occasion. I may not always call an item by an accepted name or describe a sequence or process EXACTLY as it relates to the subject but it is not intentional. There are a lot of things you can 'take to the bank' in the videos I put up for entertainment purposes, but I do reserve the right to call for 'poetic license' when such previously described gaffs are found by the discerning viewer.
Remember too that in this world you get what you pay for and considering this is free, you shouldn't expect perfection anyway. Butttt.....I do my best at imitating it.
The series is rapidly drawing to a close, but the next one will involve using a candle to remove a broken stud. How...??....you may ask, well if you are not aware of the technique after the next video you will be. But only if you stop by for a visit to check it out. Hopefully you'll swing in for the candle lighting ceremony.
