Farmall H Transmission and Final Drive Fluid Change

Follow
Tractorman44

A momentary refresh of the voltmeter/alternator change while showing the locations of the engine oil drain, fill and level checks followed by locating the two final drive sump drains are the multiple points brought forth in the video. Well, the front drain is mostly the lubricating sump for the top mount side pto belt pulley drive....but they share a common lubricant. Both must be drained during a routine final drive servicing on the tractor.
After draining what I thought to be a small quantity of water from the final drive....WOW was that a improper statement.... full stop. Turned out that the final drive sump was virtually devoid of lubricant and apparently had been so for years. Between three and four gallons of water was drained followed by only a minor amount of thick crud that had to be removed by a stick of wood. The decision at that point resulted in a four gallon flush with diesel fuel to attempt to remove as much of the gunk as possible. True to form, the seals that were guilty of leaking the rear end fluid showed up in record time while sloshing the much thinner diesel fuel.
Remember I do not do 'How To' videos, so do not do the things I do in these videos because many times the things accomplished are to be considered NOT SAFE for the inexperienced individual and even in some cases for the experienced individual either.
It was pouring down rain that day, so the flush of the final drive was done up on stands. That may make some of the viewers with a high level of safety concern cringe and for those that may feel criticism of that exercise is needed may I suggest not wasting your typing time....I ain't gonna listen to it anyway. I do things that are deemed safe by my own standards and do not wish in any way to influence anyone to follow suit. Do your own thing guys.
Essentially this video sets the stage for the upcoming video of splitting the tractor ....So hang in there, we SHOULD wrap this thing up soon. In the meantime... bearings, seals, powerwasher...OH MY !!
