“Expedition! To the Frozen Continent” (1960) is a blackandwhite documentarystyle film as part of the “Expedition!” TV series hosted by Colonel John D. Craig. This particular episode, which is narrated by Norwegian explorer Captain Finn Ronne, chronicles the mission of 39 men through the Weddell Sea to establish Ellsworth Station the largest scientific base during the international geophysical year in Antarctica. This mission was part of the United States Navy’s Operation Deep Freeze Mission I which prepared a permanent research station and paved the way for more exhaustive research in later Deep Freeze operations.
