Hey, everybody. Ryan here at etrailer. Today, on our 2022 Subaru Forester, we're gonna be showing you how to install the CURT trailer hitch receiver. But before we do that, why don't we check this out and make sure that this is gonna be the right hitch for you When it comes to the Forester, and honestly just Subarus in general, you see people out there using them to do a ton of different things. Whether, you know, you're pulling some trailers around with it or using accessories like a bike rack or cargo carrier, or even a little bit of both, you know, when it comes to picking a hitch out, you're gonna want one that's going to be able to handle all those different types of tasks, right And with a setup like this, it's gonna allow you to get all them things done, pull your trailers and use your accessories. And something else that comes to my mind is how it's gonna look, you know Especially with something like this, we have the Wilderness model here today.

And so you're gonna want something that kinda matches that Subaru image, right, and looks good. And having a hitch back here, obviously, it looks right at home. This style of hitch I'm more of a fan of because they're, for the most part, completely hidden. Really, the only thing you're gonna be able to see is the receiver tube opening back here. This is going to be a class three hitch.

So what that means, it's gonna have that twoinchbytwoinch receiver tube opening. And this is a super common size, so ton of different things are gonna work with it. At the end, there's a reinforced collar for a little bit of extra strength. And it is going to use that standard 5/8 pin and clip. But keep in mind, pin and clip don't come with the hitch.

If you need one, not a big deal. You can always grab it here at etrailer. The safety chain openings are a plate style, and I actually kinda like 'em. I think they look cool. They sit flat as opposed to like this.

And because of that, they're gonna give us a little more space to use a lot of different sized hooks. So regardless of the shape of yours on your trailer, chances are really good it's gonna work out. As far as the hitch's weight capacities go, it's gonna have some decent numbers. The maximum gross tongue weight rating is gonna be 350 pounds. That's gonna be the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So that's good for those fourbike racks, just to kinda give an example. As far as the hitch's maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 3,500 pounds. That's gonna be the amount of weight that is pulling on the hitch. So the weight of your trailer plus anything that you might have on it. I do always like to recommend, though, it's never a bad idea just to grab your Forester's owner's manual. That way, you can make sure your Subaru can pull that much weight safely. With all that in mind, if you are gonna be towing a trailer around, you're gonna want the lights to work on it, you know That way, you'll be safe and legal. And to accomplish that, you can always check out some trailer wiring. Now, I'm gonna give you a couple of measurements, and you can use these to help figure out which hitchmounted accessories to get. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, that's gonna be about 15 1/2 inches. So if you do plan on doing some towing, chances are pretty good you can use a ball mount that has a straight shank. Now, keep in mind, this is the Wilderness edition. Oftentimes, these have a lift and sit a little bit higher than kinda your more runofthemill standard Forester. So just something to keep in mind. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of our rear bumper, that's gonna be about two inches. And you can use that measurement to help figure out that if any foldingtype accessories you might have can be stored in that upright position without contacting the back of your Forester. I do wanna address one of the questions that seems to be pretty popular, and a lot of people are wondering if this hitch is gonna work with different sub models of the Forester. So for example, you know, you got your base model up until the fully loaded ones, the Wilderness edition and everything in between. And the answer is yes. Regardless of what sub model you have, what sub model Forester, the hitch is gonna bolt up and work the way it should and everything else. So good news there. Just to kinda compare this hitch to some of the other ones available, they are gonna be pretty similar for the most part. I kinda break it down into two categories. More hiddentype ones like this. Then, you got your visible ones. All the hidden ones, it'll look s
