Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2021 Subaru Outback Wagon we're gonna be showing you how to install the CURT class three trailer hitch receiver. But before we do that, why don't we check it out and make sure that this will be the right hitch for you. So when it comes to a Subaru, people use these to do pretty much everything. I see them all the time with accessories on them like a bike rack or a cargo carrier. And on the same note, I see people using them to pull some trailers around, campers, kayak trailers, and just about everything in between.

So if it we're me and I had an Outback and I was wanting to put a trailer hitch on it, I would want something that would be really versatile and handle just about anything that I wanna throw at it. And with a setup like this one here that's gonna allow us to do just that. Before we get any further, I do just wanna address some of the common questions that we get asked quite a bit. And probably the main one being is this hitch gonna work with all the different types and models of Outback Wagons And the answer is yes. From your base model up to the fully loaded model, the Outback Wilderness and everything in between.

It is designed to work with all of them. So regardless of what one you have, it is gonna work and you won't run into any issues there. I had several people asking about the backup sensors too. And that's because the hitch is gonna sit here in this area behind your fascia. People wondering if those are gonna be affected at all.

The answer is no. They're still gonna operate just like they would without a hitch and it's not gonna mess anything up or anything along those lines. So just wanna address those really quick. And if that's what you we're wondering, hopefully I answered your question. But with that said, moving back to the hitch, there's several of hitches available for the Outback Wagon and where this one shines at least in my opinion is the way it's gonna look.

So it's gonna be completely hidden for the most part. You are gonna be able to see the receiver tube opening, but not really a big deal. It matches the look of the Outback at least in my opinion. And another thing that I personally like about it is a clearance that it's gonna give us. And that's because if you we're to use a folding type of accessory or something along those lines, you're gonna wanna be able to keep it upright. Not have to worry about it hitting your bumper. And because where the end of the hitch is going to sit, we really shouldn't have to worry about any of that. It's gonna sit pretty much just about flush and give us all that space we need to be able to do that type of thing, fold that accessory up and not worry about it hitting the back of our Subaru. With this being a class three hitch, it is gonna have that twoinch by twoinch receiver tube opening. Super common size, ton of different things will work for it. If you happen to have, maybe let's say an older accessory or something that uses a smaller 11/4" by 11/4" shank, this hitch will still work. You could always pick up an adapter like this one here, like our customer's doing today, where you can slide that in and then it'll turn it into that smaller opening. So you can still use that bike rack or whatever you got. If you don't wanna change bike racks. So that's always an option for you. Just figure it out, throw it out there since we have it on hand today and that's what our guys using it for. With that said though, the hitch is gonna have that standard 5/8 pin hole. And a pin and clip does not come included. If you need one, though, not really a big deal. You can always grab one right here at etrailer and it is going to have loop style safety chain openings. They're pretty thick and relatively large. And I feel like you could rely on them in the event of an unlikely disconnect. And they're gonna allow you to use just about any size hook that your trailer might have. As far as the hitch's weight capacities go, they're gonna be pretty good. That's gonna have a 350 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating. And that's gonna be the amount of weight that is pushing down on the hitch. So relatively high number. You should be able to use those one to four bike racks just to give you an example. As far as the hitch's maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 3,500 pounds and that's gonna be the amount of weight that is pulling on the hitch. So the weight of your trailer plus anything that you might have on it. I do always like to suggest though, it's not ever a bad idea just to grab Subaru's owner's manual. That way you can make sure your
