Today at Ugly Truck, we're wrapping up the 5.3 LC9 engine rebuild and D.O.D. delete. If you missed Part 1, we took this motor out of a 2011 Chevy Silverado and tore it down to find out why it had low oil pressure, and to check the damage. Fortunately, it looked like the camshaft bearings are to blame, and the crankshaft can be polished. Now that we have all the parts back from the machine shop, we're ready to reassemble. We start by installing new main bearings and checking bearing clearance using Plastigage. Next, we install new piston rings, check ring gap, and bolt the connecting rods to the crank. We are keeping the variable valve timing VVT on this engine, but a new (nond.o.d.) camshaft, lifters, and valley cover makes this DOD delete COMPLETE!
