SHORT BOHEMIAN SHEPHERD DESCRIPTION:

The Bohemian Shepherd is a breed of herding dog native to the Czech Republic. Perhaps the oldest of all native Czech breeds, the Bohemian Shepherd can trace its history back to the 14th Century, and possibly earlier.

Known for being more laidback and friendly than its cousin the German Shepherd, the Bohemian Shepherd tends to do well with children when introduced from an early age. They bond closely to their immediate family and are warm and open, showing a great deal of affection. However, this close reliance on people can mean that they have a tendency to develop separation anxiety if left alone for long periods of time, so overdependence should not be encouraged.

The Bohemian Shepherd is a mediumsized shepherd, with a length marginally exceeding its height. The dog has long, thick fur and a rich undercoat, allowing him to withstand harsh weather. He has an exceptionally harmonious build. Body is compact and wellproportioned. Some have medium length coats, but most of them have very furry and fluffy coats.

The Bohemian Shepherd is an active dog and does require long daily walks or playtime in the backyard to keep them happy and wear them out. Since the Bohemian Shepherd is a sheepdog, they are agile and intelligent. Dog sports such as agility, rally or obedience are excellent ways to bond with your Bohemian Shepherd and give them a task to perform each day.
