Barred Owl Chick Rescue!

Hi & thanks for watching! When a baby bird first leaves the nest, it enters a period of its young life called the “fledge”. At this time they are often on the ground while they learn how to fly. The parents will still feed and protect them. If a chick falls from the nest before the proper time in its growth the odds of survival shrink exponentially due to predation. During a recent filming trip following a pair of Barred Owl’s in the Adirondacks I was surprised to find a chick that had fallen from the nest a few weeks before it was ready to fledge. As “always” with baby birds its their own parents that can give them what they need and baby birds should be avoided so the parents can take proper care of them. If you are sure that its fallen accidentally & prematurely and its healthy then the appropriate thing to do is to return it back to the nest where it belongs which is “exactly” what happened in this film.

Barred Owls fossils have been found over 11000 thousand years old which means they flew along side Wooly Mammoth!

At the Nature Walks Conservation Society we truly care about the well being of all wildlife and habitat and do our best to reconnect families to the natural world. We host in person Nature Walks, work with local conservation commissions about habitat planning, perform public speaking and of course create wildlife films to share.

If you wish to help us on our mission either by volunteering or donations to help cover the costs to perform our work you can find information at;

Thank you so very much!
