Capsular contracture is the hardening and deformity of the natural scar tissue that occurs after breast augmentation. The key to treating capsular contracture involves removing the entire encapsulated capsule, diagnosing why the patient is experiencing capsular contracture, and then putting a new capsule using ADM in order to avoid another cap con reoccurence.

During capsular contracture treatment, Dr. Cassileth carefully removes the complete capsule, including any fluid around the implant, granulation or inflammatory tissue within the capsule, or freefloating silicone that can sometimes leak from a ruptured implant. She then uses an antibiotic power wash to combat potential sources of inflammation that may be responsible for causing contracture. Finally, an antibacterial solution is left within the breast to complete the sterilization process.
