25.1 Introduction to the Special Theory of Relativity | General Physics

Chads Prep

Chad provides an Introduction to Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity. The lesson begins with the two postulates of the Special Theory of Relativity. The first postulate states that the laws of physics are the same in all inertial frames. An inertial frame is a frame in which Newton's 1st Law of Motion applies meaning there is no net force or acceleration acting upon an object. The second postulate states that the speed of light in a vacuum is constant in all inertial frames regardless of the relative speed at which the observer and source of light might be moving. The consequences of the speed of light being constant in all inertial frames is that the measurement of time and distance become dependent upon the inertial frame of the observer, particularly when objects are moving at high speeds relative to the speed of light.
