I recently wrapped up a system upgrade in Vero Beach, FL for a client. Their 2007 Newmar Allstar is unique as it is a side load toy hauler with a mid engine diesel. The challenge with this RV is the lack of under bay storage and where to install the Victron Equipment.

This install was an upgrade as the client had previously installed 2000 watts of solar on the roof, dcdc charging and 600ah of lithium batteries several years ago. I was brought in to upgrade the Xantrex inverter with dual Victron MultiPlus II 3000va inverter/chargers. Previously, the Xantrex inverter was rated for 3000 watts and a single MultiPlus II is rated for 2400 watts. The client not wanting to have less power than before opted for dual MultiPlus II's which would provide 2400 watts on each hot leg of a 50 amp service. Additionally, I installed my Generator Auto Start Stop box so the system can automatically start up the generator at a specified low state of charge threshold.

As part of the upgrade I was able to improve the system by making it safer by doing the following:
Split the 600AH battery bank into two 300AH banks
Installed MRBF fuses on each battery bank, where previously there was no battery fuses
Installed a battery disconnect, where previously there was none
Upgraded battery interconnect cables from 1/0 to 2/0 to better handle the large amp draw. The cables were getting hot previously while Xantrex was charging.

This system now consists of the following components:
