Yubinuki Thimble Ring (Final Pt.)

Follow
Oak House Journals

Hi everyone,

this was intended to be the final video in the mini series on how to make a Yubinuki ( Japanese thimble ring) but unfortunately it failed to load properly onto Youtube and the tail end of the video was lost but not to worry, there is another video for you.

In the video I am actually stitching the my chosen design on the Yubinuki. I also show how to make a Yubinuki knot, change threads, finish off your stitching plus a couple of other tips and tricks for good measure along the way.

This was my first foray into making a Yubinuki and it has been wonderful fun. Definitely not the sharp learning curve I thought it was going to be. I am thrilled at how my rings have turned out and I’ll certainly be experimenting with different threads, weights and colours from here on in. I think I’m hooked on creating these.

Throughout the mini series I’ve been using the GinaB Silkworks Yubinuki Kit (see below). The kit has clear, concise and comprehensive instructions for the complete beginner ( and I certainly was) plus all you will need to create several rings, including a reuseable Yubinuki gauge which proved invaluable.

I hope you enjoyed the mini series and will have a go at making your own Yubinuki. If you have any questions please just leave me a comment and I’ll be happy to help if I can.

Thank you so much for watching and spending time with me. I really do appreciate your company.

Hugs C xx.

SUGGESTED ALTERNATIVE THREADS (all available from Gina B Silkworks)

Rajmahal art silk ~ Worked as a single strand.

Soie de Paris and Soie d'Alger ~ Both of these are divisible just like DMC thread.

Soie Gobelins ~ This is a fine thread and finer threads do mean that the patterns need to be adjusted. Gina recommends to use 3 strands for one of the DMC threads.
However if you were to only use one strand at a time, you would need to adjust the pattern by working every instruction 3 times (so 2 rounds would become 6).
