Carolina Lupine is a gorgeous native plant that can benefit the landscape in which it grows. While propagating this plant by means of root division can indeed be accomplished, I am now working to propagate this plant by seed. While it ay take a little more attention and a little more time for the seeds to germinate and become established, there are advantages that include being able to grow more new plants at a faster rate and having more genetic diversity (aka a greater resilience to environmental conditions/disease) in the local population of this species.

**Note: This plant is NOT a true Lupine, and is toxic to various animal species including humans. That being said, This is a native plant to North America that can be a great habitat and or food source for various pollinators and other beneficial insects, and it can also have benefits for soil health as it can work with microbes to help fix Nitrogen from the atmosphere. It also produces a long and deep taproot that can mine soil nutrients that other plants cannot reach holding it in the plant until its biomass decomposes releasing these nutrients close to the surface of the soil. The taproot can also work to help break up soil compaction, increasing aeration and increasing water infiltration and percolation.
