A STUDY OF WOOD DUCKS NESTING IN TORONTO HIGH PARK

This film is a sequel to my previous video story of a young couple a male duck from New Brunswick and a female from the High Park pairing and going through their life before breeding. If you haven't seen this interesting movie, I recommend you to watch it. The film is currently dubbed in Georgian, however equipped with English subtitles, so it's easy to watch.

Current movie represents the next stage of the life of this beautiful Wood Duck family and describes their nesting habits. This includes selection of the nest type and nesting ecosystem, laying eggs, incubation, hatching; shows ducklings leaving the nest and subsequent travel of the brood to the water.
The film was created on the basis of years of observation of behaviour of wood ducks and good knowledge of their biology. It is based on a video footage representing breeding period of more than 10 wood duck pairs. The film captures the story of a pair that best describes the general picture of the reproductive biology of these ducks.
Unfortunately, the majority of the dog owners visiting the park during ducks’ breeding season violate the restrictions imposed by the park management and unleash their dogs in the prohibited areas. As a consequence, a lot of newly hatched ducklings easily get lost in the park woodland, most of them vanish. However, kind people find some of them and release them into the lake. Sometimes, a mother duck may find her lost ducklings. Otherwise, without mother's protection and care they will die.

სამწუხაროთ, იმის გამო, რომ იხვების გამრავლების პერიოდში პარკში ძაღლთან ერთად მოსული ვიზიტიორების უმრავლესობა არღვევს პარკის დირექციის მოთხოვნას და აშვებული ძაღლებით სეირნობენ აკრძალულ ტერიტორიებზე, ძალიან ბევრი ახალგამოჩეკილი ჭუკების უგზოუკლოთ იკარგებიან პარკის ტყეში და მათი უმრავლესობა იღუპება. თუმცა კეთილი ადამიანებო პოულობენ ზოგიერთ მადგანს და ტბაში უშვებენ. ასეთ ჭუკებს ზოგჯერ დედა პოულობს, სხვა შემთხვევაში ისინი დაუცველობის და დედის ზრუნველობას მოკლებული აქაც მალევე იღუპებიან.
