Why You Should Quit Your Job | But Not Yet

Follow
TommyBryson

Now it's easy for someone on a camera to tell you, to quit your job, because they are not the one who is going to be stuck paying your bills. You’ll be the one who will have to figure that out. So this video is not as radical as those, instead, my goal is to show you why you should work towards 2 positions in life.

1. Some Reasons Why the Standard 95 job sucks ( by experience )
A 9 to 5 job on a salary basis trades money for time
You give me 8 hours of time and I’ll pay you $20 per hour
That’s the trade
However: what incentive do you have to work faster
I can confidently say, that most office work takes about 46 hours to complete, a lot of the other hours are dead hours
Time you just used to distract yourself or slow things down to make the day go by faster
When you trade time for money you have no incentive to finish faster and you have no control over your time

Alternative:
⁃ you trade results for money
⁃ I’ve had two editors here on youtube, great guys
⁃ I noticed though that when someone was getting paid per hour, they would naturally take longer on a video
⁃ When they were getting paid per video, they would make the same highquality video, and deliver it faster
⁃ People like having control over their time, and the incentive is massive

Tip: switch to a 1099 position

2. False sense of Security
We all feel safe in an airplane don’t we
But the truth is, what really is that seat belt going to do if that airplane falls from the sky
The answer is very little

The same thing apply to job security:
Time in a job
Skill in a job
Relationships in a job
All these things are like seatbelts, however if the company ever needs to cut back, because the owner wants more money or the company can't survive, you will be let go

Here is an example
When I work at my college, I remember a day when I came into the office and I saw a bunch of people with boxes and I thought they were renovating
The answer was they were letting people go
One guy had over 15 years in the company, and he was sure he was safe and he was…that day

Now the solution some people come up with is this: Become indispensable
That takes a lot of work and a lot of effort
And even when you do that, you tick off the wrong person by becoming a threat and then be let go

My suggestion is this:
Use that extra energy it would take you to be indispensable
And put it towards having better security for yourself
For example, having no debt, having an emergency account of 6 months, having an investment, and paid off a home
These things make it so your job is dispensable if it needs to be ( give you a position of power )

3. Turn your job into a trade school, and use it to acquire the skills you need or the capital you need
I used one of my jobs to give me money, to invest it into my business, and eventually it replaced my job
Some people work a job learn the skills needed and start their own thing, you see this a lot with software jobs
And some people just use it, to liberate financial stress and stay at their jobs

One solution is this too:
I like my job but I just don’t want to be working per hour
Offer to work as a contractor for the company
It’ll be cheaper for them and better for you ( but the risk is, its lot easier to let you go, so keep that in mind )
