Happy Habit Podcast

Dr Benjamin Bikman is the author of Why we get sick, which makes the case for insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction as the underlying cause of many of our modern health problems. He earned his Ph.D. in Bioenergetics and was a postdoctoral fellow with the DukeNational University of Singapore in metabolic disorders.

Currently, his professional focus as a scientist and associate professor
(Brigham Young University) is to better understand the role of
elevated insulin in regulating obesity and diabetes, including the
relevance of ketones in mitochondrial function.

In this episiode we hear about how the ease with which we can measure glucose and the historic understanding and relationship with glucose has distracted medicine from the importance of insulin which is alot more difficult to measure.
We hear about the value of wearing glucose monitors but that the data they offer is only part of the metabolic picture.
We hear about what insulin resistance is and the role the foods we eat plays in making us insulin resistant.
Expect to learn about the relationship between inflammation and high insulin levels. Expect to learn about how a late night sugary snack can cause you to be anxious. Also learn what foods we should be eating that dont spike our insulin levels.
