It’s hard to resist the cute face of a furry friend, but there are a few things to consider before you a bring a new animal into your home. Julie Kuenstle from the Houston SPCA talked with Great Day Houston’s Deborah Duncan about that and some of the misconceptions about adopting a pet.
Here are a few things to take into account if you are thinking about introducing a new dog, cat, lizard, rabbit or other animal into your life:
• Space. Do you live in an apartment, condo or house?
• Budget. Do you have the money to pay for food, veterinary care and supplies?
• Lifestyle. Do you have an active or laid back lifestyle?
• Do you prefer small animals or large animals?
• Are there any other pets in the household?
• Do you travel a lot or are you gone most of the day?
• Consider fostering an animal to see if you are ready for a pet.
The Houston SPCA has animals available for adoption now and are available in real time on their website, HoustonSPCA.org. (http://www.houstonspca.org/)
